Google allows “Starring” of favourite images

Google is now adding “starring” of your favourite images in image search, which adds the images to your collection to look at later.

The feature is initially being rolled out to US users and will work on both desktop and mobile versions of the search giant’s image search.

Users must be logged in to their Google account in order to use the star feature (images will be saved under your account ready for viewing later).

If you are in the US, simply search for a term in Google’s image search, click on an image you would like to save and then click on the Star (and save text). The image will then be saved to your collection.

You can view your saved images later, and organise them into collections, for example “hairstyles” if you’ve been looking for ideas for a new hairdo, or perhaps “possible cars” so you can look back at images of potential new cars you’ve shortlisted.

Google originally had a starring feature back in the early 2000’s which although weren’t quite the same, share similar characteristics.

It’s all very pinterest-esque if you ask us! Will Google add more new features, or stick to their roots in the search engine world? That’s yet to be seen – only time will tell.
